Echoes of Ai Weiwei is a small, non-commercial digital exhibition made in admiration of an artist who treats art as a way to test history, authority, and collective memory.

The site borrows the quiet pacing of a gallery handout—plain typography, open space, and direct object labels—so the works can remain central. Every description is original and written from public museum and exhibition sources. This project is not an official archive, catalogue raisonné, or representative of the artist.

This website is curated by Peiyuan Liao, an art enthusiast.

Ai Weiwei was born in Beijing in 1957. His practice crosses sculpture, installation, photography, architecture, film, publishing, and digital media. Across these forms he examines how cultural value is made, how power becomes visible, and how individual lives can be obscured—or recovered—within large political systems.

After living in the United States from 1981 to 1993, Ai returned to China and became a central figure in its experimental art and architecture scenes. Internationally known projects include the 2008 Beijing National Stadium collaboration with Herzog & de Meuron, Sunflower Seeds at Tate Modern, and works responding to the 2008 Sichuan earthquake. His art and public advocacy have remained closely intertwined.
